Role Highlights: Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, walk-behind compaction equipment, and a variety of other equipment and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the side of excavations and clean up rubble, debris, and other waste materials. May assist other craft workers.

Shaping Impact: Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Control traffic passing near, in or around work zones.
  • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.
  • Measure, mark, or record opening or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Operate or maintain air monitoring or other sampling devices in confined or hazardous environments.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or complete and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.
  • Mix ingredients to create compounds for covering or cleaning surfaces.
  • Tend dewatering pumps, compressors, or generators to support power tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials, such as asphalt.
  • Erect or dismantle braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.
  • Provide assistance to craft workers, such as carpenters, plasterers, or masons.
  • Lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools.
  • Position, join, align, or seal structural components, such as concrete wall sections or pipes.
  • Position or dismantle forms for placing concrete, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts.
  • Tend machines that pump concrete, grout, cement and sand
  • Apply caulking compounds by hand or caulking guns to protect against entry of water or air.
  • Smooth or finish freshly placed concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered concrete finishing tools.
  • Mop, brush, or spread paints, cleaning solutions, or other compounds over surfaces to clean them or to provide protection.
  • Perform site activities required of green certified construction practices, such as
  • Implementing waste management procedures, identifying materials for reuse, or installing erosion or sedimentation control mechanisms.
  • Operate jackhammers or drills to break up concrete or pavement.
  • Identify, pack, or transport hazardous.
  • Demolition or salvage useful materials.
  • Move construction or extraction materials to locations where they are needed.
Your Unique Qualifications:
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification;
  • First Aid/CPR certification;
  • Forklift, aerial lift, or telehandler operator certification;
  • Traffic Control/Flagger certification;
  • NCCER Core or Carpentry certification;
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints beyond civil drawings;
  • Knowledge of green building practices and erosion control methods;
  • HazMat or HAZWOPER 40-hour certification;
  • Basic welding skills or certification.
Physical Skills and Essential Requirements: 
  • Positions required to work in: climbing, bending, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, crawling.
  • Good hand/eye balance is required in order to use the tools necessary to complete the required work.
  • Must have vision which has good depth perception in order to judge distances and space relationships. This item is especially important when doing near-point work which may be varying distances from the eye.
  • Must be able to work in all kinds of weather.
  • At times, will be required to work below ground to install materials. NOTE: Must be familiar with the requirements set by OSHA, the customer and the company with regards to working below ground.
  • Minimum math ability for this position is to calculate surface areas and translate these figures into a bill of material, which can be used to complete a specific job. Must be able to use variables and formulas which are normally found in most industry approved trade hand books.
  • Must have the ability speak using correct English and to write simple reports with the correct format using the correct English spelling and grammar. Must also have the ability to read safety requirements, read and understand instructions for the correct usage of tools, and be able to read and understand methods and procedures in civil drawings and layout prints in English.
  • Accurately interpret and apply information from work orders, job orders, specifications, project plans (for example, being able to do a material take off).
  • Identify, recognize and demonstrate safe usage of power tools appropriate for the job including table saw, radial arm saw, circular saw, etc.
